Adopt a Cat Through One of These 8 Agencies

We have just welcomed the most gorgeous little kitten into our home. His name is Rupert (Ru for short). He was born on the streets and found in an awful condition before he was rescued and taken to one of Sydney’s cat shelters. I look at him now, prancing around like the household boss that he is, and just roll my eyesWhat leaps and bounds this little punk has made! If you’re in a similar position and are looking to welcome a new addition into your family, I wholeheartedly urge you to adopt, not shop. And if cats aren’t your thing, that’s absolutely ok – check out my article on adopting greyhounds!

So, why even bother looking into shelters instead of going to a breeder or pet shop? Here are 3 good reasons:

1. You’ll save more than one life
As well as giving a cat in need a loving home, you’ll create an open position for another cat to fill. Our animal sanctuaries are filled to the brim, and there are always more animals that need to find safe and loving homes.

2. It’s financially a good option for you
Adopting a cat often tends to be a much more economic option when compared to purchasing from a breeder or pet store. Most of the time your cat will come vaccinated and desexed, and you will be able to pick them up for a really great price.

3. Pet shops and breeders often keep their animals in poor conditions
I can’t count the number of horror stories I hear about pet shops and breeders. Our own family dog, Monster, was bought from a pet store for my little sister by an ex-boyfriend, and he turned up extremely malnourished. One of my other friends also recently purchased a kitten from a breeder – she was tiny and absolutely ridden with fleas. It’s so important to do what we can not to support these conditions.

In short, it just makes complete sense to adopt a cat when there are so many in need. If you’re based in Sydney, there are a number of cat adoption agencies that you can look into in order to find a new, little family member.

Remember, it’s so important to do your due diligence when adopting a cat through any organisation. Do your research and, if you do choose to proceed, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Every single animal adopted is an entire life saved, and it’s a beautiful way to sprinkle your magic in the world.
