10 Ideas for Date Night in Isolation

As bars, cinemas and restaurants have been closed down (for now), our traditional date nights have taken a backseat. Whilst for some this means a dampener has been put on our love lives, it doesn’t have to be this way. If you take that perspective and flip it on its head, the bright side of self-isolation is that we have an abundance of time to spend with our partners. It’s so important to keep up the romance, especially during a time when you’re most likely spending lots of hours in each other’s pockets. Schedule a time and try out some of my top ideas to keep the spark alive, without even needing to leave the house!

1. Create a backyard picnic
Picnics are right up there in terms of romance, ease and cuteness factor. Prepare a whole basketful of delicious nibbles and foods to lay out on your favourite picnic rug, then dress the yard in fairy lights, set up some candles and press shuffle on your chosen playlist.

2. Challenge your partner at games night
As long as you don’t think you’ll kill your partner if you lose, a games evening is an awesome way to spend date night. Put away your phone for the evening and pull out some cards, a chessboard or perhaps even monopoly.

3. Pamper each other with massages
A night spent rubbing oil into your partner and being massaged in return is fairly high up on my list of ways I’d like to spend my time. Massages are a highly effective way to shift energy, are incredibly romantic, and are a great way to connect with your partner, if you know what I mean!

4. Recreate a fine-dining experience
Spend your afternoon playing MasterChef in the kitchen and whipping up an epic 3-course feast. Once the food is done, take some time to get all glammed up, slip on your favourite dress and pull out the special champagne glasses. There’s much to be said for heels and lipstick at home, and let’s face it, you deserve the celebration!

5. Create a TikTok
I’m yet to jump on the TikTok bandwagon but I have plenty of friends who swear that time flies when learning a dance or skit. Have a go at the #plankchallenge, take a stab at Megan Thee Stallion’s Savage, or if you’re feeling game, checkout @twitchtok7’s page for some inspiration./

6. Mix some cocktails
Choose your favourite 2 or 3 cocktails, grab the ingredients, and lay everything out for your own at-home cocktail mixing class. Tutorials are in abundance onYoutube, or print out some recipes beforehand. Chuck on your Spotify, crank the tunes and get shaking!

7. Snuggle up for a movie night
We all know that Netflix ‘n Chill is the OG of date nights, but it got that title for a reason. Pop some corn, pull the cushions off your couch and create your own little den for the evening. It’s the perfect excuse to snuggle and have a lazy evening, whilst spending quality time with your partner.

8. Spend the night groovin’
Regardless of how good you are, dancing is a whole heap of fun. Why not spend the night learning to salsa with your loved one? Or, if raving is more your style, set up a silent disco and get your boogie on.

9. Have an outdoor sleepover
Got a tent? Got a date night! Whilst this one evokes epic childhood memories for me, it’s also an incredibly romantic thing to do. If you own a fire bin you can even watch the stars while making smores – it’s the best thing to do before sliding into your sleeping bags and snuggling up for the night.

10. Get arty
Now here’s a novel idea – get arty and try sketching your partner in the nude. I mean, your partner is your greatest muse, right? Crack open a bottle of wine and settle in for some giggles.
