Vegan High Tea - Alibi, Sydney
A few years ago, the concept of a plant-based high tea would have been laughable. High tea was something you went to when your Grandma came to town, or for a special brunch with the girls, and although the social occasion was always welcomed, I remember sitting there with a grumbling stomach, watching my companions munch on pastries and scones, while I slowly sipped my tea.
Fast forward several years and I am delighted to welcome Alibi to the scene. Alibi has challenged the limitations of a traditional high tea, instead opting to create a delicious, plant-based menu, designed by the internally renowned chef, Matthew Kenney.
Located in Woolloomooloo’s designer hotel, Ovolo, Alibi offers a high tea menu that is both aesthetically stunning and downright delicious. The cake stand is tiered with both savoury and sweet options, including mini quiches, berry cheesecakes, and my personal favourite, the lemon meringues. Oh, and did I mention it comes with optional free flow champagne?! For the full menu and a list of the various pricing options, please click here.
Alibi’s innovative interior makes the perfect setting for many occasions. The vegan high tea is an experience I would 100% recommend – as well as being a great afternoon, I think it’s always important to support those businesses that promote a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. It’s also a versatile venue - as well as the high tea, Alibi boasts a restaurant with an extensive cocktail list that pairs perfectly with the creative plant-based dinner menu.
Overall, the ambience is on point, the food is excellent and the service was highly attentive. The only recommendation I would have to Team Alibi is perhaps to serve more of the savoury food – I could easily have done with another 5 mushroom toasts! So next time the girls want to get together, head over and check out Alibi – my only tip would be to leave the car keys at home and take full advantage of the free flow prosecco!
