5 Vegan Chocolate MUST HAVES

One of the most commons reasons I hear from people about why they aren’t interested in going vegan is the idea of giving up dairy, and quite often, chocolate in particular.

Whilst it’s true that milk is regularly added into chocolate to make it richer and creamier, the good news is that chocolate itself is made from cocoa beans and is completely plant-based.

Vegan chocolate is now widely available in supermarkets, with the majority of high percentage dark chocolate being naturally vegan. But it’s still that little bit harder to source the same quality for vegan milk chocolate. Perhaps you’re suspicious about whether or not vegan milk chocolate can taste like the real deal – it’s a fair enough suspicion considering lots of vegan chocolate tastes like crap.

I have tested out a large range of vegan chocolate to compile a list of amazing chocolate that is 100% plant-based and cruelty free! It was an arduous task as I’m sure you can imagine – I hope you enjoy the results!

Treat Dreams are a brand known for their cakes and custom chocolates. They are currently expanding into chocolate bars, and I was lucky enough to taste-test their new range which is about to released. Their Milk Chocolate with Peanuts bar is so creamy and smooth; they are also releasing a Dark Chocolate Party bar which tastes exactly like popping candy chocolate!

Pana is a staple of mine; it’s also great as their chocolate is readily available in supermarkets. Try out the Mint-Choc flavour – it is divine. What makes this brand even better is that they have just released their own range of dairy-free icecream sticks and tubs!

Loco Love describes themselves as ‘new age alchemy’ – it’s chocolate with the benefits of superfoods, tonic herbs and healing spices. And it’s true – you can taste the difference! Purchase online or at one of their many stockists

This chocolate bar is sent from heaven. It tastes like Nutella, or Ferrero Rochers, but it is without the nasty dairy component. It’s creamy, it’s nutty, and it’s devilishly addictive. I love the whole hazelnuts that have been added in to make the bar funky chunky!

Hey Tiger is brand I have only recently tried. The vegan chocolate is so good and creamy, I couldn’t believe it was vegan! Whilst I haven’t had the chance to try them all, Fairy Wings is my fav! And yes, it does taste like Fairy Bread.

Finally we have a delicious alternative to Milo! This is a nostalgic treat for me – it tastes just like my childhood. Ulu Hye are more well-known for their non-dairy mylk bases, but this addition was one I could not look past!

With all of these delicious vegan chocolates available, there’s really no reason to opt in favour of dairy. The reason cows produce milk is the same reasons that we do – to support the growth of their young – but this is a process that means growth hormones and inflammatory components end up in our foods, and also supports an industry that rips calves from their mothers on their day of birth.
