The 5G Phenomenon
If you’re not alarmed about the dangers of 5G radiation, you should be.
5G is the next major evolution in network technology to be released worldwide. The pros? Tests suggest that the new network could be 30x faster than NBN and 60x faster than 4G. It will provide quicker streaming at a higher quality, with lower latency and more simultaneous connections. It will have higher capacity transmissions to carry the huge amounts of data that will be generated by smart cities, driverless cars, augmented reality and more.
But while people around the world are gearing up to trade in their mobile phone for 5G compatible devices (the biggest marketing ploy ever, if you ask me), there is a growing movement protesting its release.
5G will include higher millimetre wave frequencies that have never before been used for IT. Because these waves don’t travel well through buildings, 5G small cell antennas are being placed all throughout cities (on street lights, on bus stops, on the side of buildings etc). Whereas previously we have had large cell towers that cover designed areas, 5G will use the networks provided by these antenna cells which are everywhere and will function as cell towers.
These small cell antennas are not to be used ‘instead of’, but ‘in addition to’ the existing infrastructure, adding an extra layer to our current wireless technology. Each cell installation can have over 1,000 antennas transmitting radiation, and despite their name, the radiation from these small cells is anything but small. 5G will utilise 3G and 4G frequencies, and will massively increase the radiation in our environment– higher frequency waves (which have not been independently evaluated) will be used to transmit data at extraordinary speeds.
The movement against the release of 5G is based on the premise that radiation is dangerous, and proper testing has not been conducted. While a fair assumption would be that this 5G technology has been tested for all associated risks, somehow this is just not the case. No substantiated data has been compiled on health risks. The 5G launch will be the first real test on humans ever conducted. The Government has no proof of safe usage and a majority of the peer reviewed literature has strong evidence of harm.
Human exposure to this level of radiation is extremely controversial. Scientists across the world have issued a declaration call the 5G Appeal which calls for a moratorium on the increase of 5G antennas. As part of this appeal, over 230 scientists from more than 40 countries have raised concerns regarding our exposure to Electromagnetic fields (EMF) generated by wireless devices already, prior even to the additional 5G cell rollout. They are citing human health dangers and negative impacts to wildlife as the reason for their concern. Conventional research associates daily radiation with problems such as increased risk of cancer, cellular stress, genetic damages, issues with reproduction and neurological disorders.
Some of the world’s more forward-thinking cities have also taken steps to halt the upgrade of the 5G Network. In April 2019, Brussels stopped a 5G trial due to radiation regulations. In Geneva, the implementation of the network was stopped for the same reason. Several days ago, the Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, personally back the International Appeal to stop the rollout of 5G. It’s great that many prominent people are stepping up to take action, but scary to note that nothing has been done as of yet.
I think it’s best summed up in a bill by the state of New Hampshire in the US that asks“Why have 1,000s of peer-reviewed studies, including the recently published U.S. Toxicology Program 16-year $30 million study, that are showing a wide range of statistically significant DNA damage, brain and heart tumors, infertility, and so many other ailments, being ignored by the Federal Communication Commission (FCC)?” and, “Why have more than 220 of the world’s leading scientists signed an appeal to the WHO and the United Nations to protect public health from wireless radiation and nothing has been done?”
Several other agencies are calling for a halt for different reasons. The Heads of NASA and NOAA have argued that the frequencies emitted by 5G antennas are scarily close to satellite frequencies used to predict weather changes. Because of this, there is the strong possibly the waves can interfere. If this were to occur, there could be less warning time for hurricanes, cyclones and other natural disasters. Perhaps another interesting angle is to look at it from an insurer’s point of view. In this day and age, it’s always a good idea to follow the money trail. Major insurers, such as Lloyds, are declining to insure telecommunication companies for any “illnesses caused by continuous long-term non-ionising radiation exposure i.e. through mobile phone usage.”
Meanwhile, over in the remote island of Australia, the rollout is progressing without falter. Telstra have released a statement saying “We rely on the expert advice of both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) for overall assessments of health and safety impacts. The WHO and ARPANSA advise that there is no substantiated scientific evidence that radiofrequency technologies that operate within national and international safety standards cause health effects.”But hold on a second – there may be no substantiated evidence, but this goes both ways. Previous peer reviewed literature would suggest there is much to fear from EMF, yet of course there is no specific data for or against the 5G rollout. Independent tests have not been carried out. And, it’s also interesting to note that whilst ARPANSA say the radiation from the 5G rollout is within their limits, the limit in Australia is 100x higher than most other nations. Even more questionable is their claim that they are an independent organisation – yet they receive $1MM annually from the wireless industry. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the information is not adding up.
The way I see it, 5G leads to an enormous increase of exposure to wireless radiation. The worst part about it is that it’s involuntary and inescapable. There’s nothing you can do to protect yourself, short of moving to Antarctica. If you want to join the appeal, please go ahead and sign on at the 5G International Appeal. If you would like to do more of your own digging, there’s an amazing list of studies on the Environmental Health Trust site.
